Big Thunder Mountain Tips

  • Scary Factor: More thrilling than scary, with sharp turns, steep drops, and quick accelerations but does NOT go upside down. The bumpy ride may feel intense for some, but it’s a family-friendly coaster.
  • Speed: Big Thunder Mountain reaches speeds of up to 35 mph, providing moderate thrills without being extreme.
  • Ride Duration: Approximately 3 to 4 minutes.
  • Drops: Features 5 to 6 moderate drops, none overly steep, enhancing the sense of adventure.
  • Pregnancy Advisory: Not recommended for pregnant guests due to sharp turns, drops, and sudden accelerations.
  • Accessibility: Guests with mobility devices enter through an alternate access point and must transfer to the ride car. An ADA/accessible transfer car with a fold-down side is available for easier boarding—ask a Cast Member for guidance. Service animals not permitted.
  • Sensory Advisory: Intense experience with sharp turns, sudden drops, a simulated earthquake, bumpy sections, fast speeds, and loud noises, which may be overwhelming for those with sensory sensitivities.
  • Plus-Size Friendly: Features small seats but can still accommodate larger adults — consider riding alone or with a smaller seatmate. Avoid cars with overhead wings for easier entry.
  • Best Age Group: Suitable for children aged 4 to 5 and older who meet the height requirement and enjoy moderate thrills. Great for families seeking an exciting, immersive ride.
