Shades of Green
In addition to Disney Hotel and Ticket Deals, many members of the military opt to stay at Shades of Green, an Army-owned and operated resort located right on Disney World property. This exclusive resort offers military families a comfortable, affordable, and conveniently located place to stay, with spacious rooms and amenities that rival other deluxe Disney resorts. Shades of Green features pools, dining options, and even discounts on park tickets, all within easy access to the Magic Kingdom and other Disney attractions. It’s a fantastic choice for military personnel looking to enjoy a magical vacation while staying on budget.
Originally, Disney owned the property and operated it as the Golf Resort, catering primarily to guests looking for a peaceful retreat with access to nearby golf courses. However, in 1994, the U.S. Army purchased the property and transformed it into Shades of Green, an Armed Forces Recreation Center exclusively for active duty and retired military personnel, as well as their families. The purchase allowed the Army to provide a high-quality, family-friendly resort experience at an affordable price, keeping the same Disney charm while making it accessible to those who serve. Since then, Shades of Green has grown in popularity, providing military families with a unique blend of Disney magic and military hospitality.
