With Florida’s notoriously unpredictable weather and the sheer athleticism of a park day (when’s the last time you walked 20K steps?), figuring out what to wear to Walt Disney World can be a challenge. If you ask us, the perfect Disney outfit combines extreme comfort and a sprinkle of Disney magic. Here’s how to do just that.
What should I wear at Disney World?
A sporty shorts + tee combo or a breezy dress (layered with chafe-protecting shorts) are some of the most popular park outfits. We like athleisure pieces made from moisture-wicking fabrics to stay cool and dry should we get caught in an afternoon downpour or enjoy a splashy ride like Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.

What shoes should I wear to Disney World?
As for footwear, comfort is key. Some Disney enthusiasts swear by Cros and flip-flops, but we would never: Supportive sneakers are the only way to go. Hot tip: If you’re wearing a new pair, always, always break them in before heading to the parks.

Do I need a sweatshirt?
From May to October, probably not. Otherwise, temps can drop in the morning and evenings, so a sweatshirt or light jacket might be necessary, especially if you’re travelling from a hot climate. You can use Disney World date checker to see the expected weather for your specific dates. Keep in mind that things usually warm up during the day so keep your layers as packable as possible to avoid hauling around.

Will it rain?
Probably. Florida showers tend to be quick, giving way to sunny skies before you know it. It’s always a good idea to have a poncho or packable rain jacket on hand to avoid shelling out $12 for a park poncho. If sustained rain is in the forecast, waterproof footwear options like Gore-Tex sneakers, shoe covers, or Crocs can be a smart choice, along with a backup pair to wear the next day.

Should I wear a backpack or a belt bag?
We’re sorry to say that there is no perfect answer: Backpacks are roomy enough to carry the essentials (insulated water bottle, phone charger, and rain gear, at the very minimum) but they can be hot and heavy. Belt bags are comfortable but might leave you struggling to fit everything you need. Only you can make the call, but we will say that being hands free is the best way to enjoy Mickey bars, pretzels, and cheeseburger spring rolls.

Will I get a sunburn?
If you don’t wear sunscreen or UV clothing, 100% yes. Slater on the SPF, remembering to reapply often, and add sunglasses and a wide-brimmed hat to be extra sun safe.

How do I add Disney magic to my outfit?
From matching family t-shirts to full-on Disneybounds, there are so many ways to Pixie Dust an otherwise utilitarian outfit. You can start with subtle touches like character-inspired color schemes and ramp up to all the Disney favorites: Minnie ears, Loungefly backpacks, and Baublebar jewelry. The only steadfast rule is that costumes are prohibited unless you’re attending Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween party. Have fun!
